Winning the Public Speech final were Mary McPhail and Mackenzie Reed in a duo performance.
University of Saskatchewan, Diefenbaker Cup
Ashvin Singh and Emily Cliff won the tournament. In a break composed entirely by the University of Alberta, the other finalists were Ian Burch and Noah Dolgoy, Robert Lees-Miller and Jon Fairbridge, and Dylan Handy and Nathan Pinkoski.
The top speaker was Emily Cliff.

Winning the tournament were Alan Cliff and Julia Lisztwan over Sharon O’hayon and Byron Tse in a U of A dominated break.
The top speaker was Alan Cliff and the top novice speaker was Ian Burch.
CUSID British Parliamentary Championships
The University of Alberta Debate Society proudly hosted the tournament, showing Edmonton off to the circuit.
A hybrid team of Julia Lisztwan and Brent Kettles made it to the finals.
CUSID Western Canadian Pro-Am Championships
Alan Cliff and Rachelle Neame won the final that also included Sharon O’hayon and Ian Burch.
The top speaker was Alan Cliff and the top novice speaker was Byron Tse.
Nathan Pinkoski managed to secure the U of A a speaking sweep, winning the public speech finals.
2003-2004 SEASON
U of A Hosted Tournaments

McGoun Cup – Western Canadian Championships (Feb. 13-15)
Clarissa Pearce and Greg Fingas won the tournament and also took first and second place in individual speaker points, respectively.
In the semi-finals were U of A teams Alim Merali / Talib Rajwani and Chris Samuel / Steve Smith.
Breaking to quarterfinals were Nick Tam / Mat Johnson, Kyle Kawanami / Julia Lisztwan and Chris Bolivar / Cassie Brown.
Five U of A speakers made the Public Speech final: Julia Lisztwan, Peter Buijs, Nick Fowler, Chris Samuel and third-place public speaker Alex Easton.
67th Annual Hon. Lord Hugill Cup (Nov. 7-9)
The team of James Crossman and Arthur Tse won this annual Alberta-hosted British Parliamentary-style tournament.
Stephanie Wanke, in a hybrid with Erin Weir (U of C), broke to finals.
Three U of A teams broke to semi-finals: Kyle Kawanami / Roman Kotovych, Mat Johnson / Debra Ohayon and Nick Tam /Garrett Finegan.
Top Speaker was awarded to Stephanie Wanke, and Top Novice to Jung-Suk Ryu.
In the Public Speech final: Steph Wanke, Garrett Finegan and Ann Behennah.
Grant Davy’s Cup (Oct. 4-6)
This U of A in-house tournament was won by TJ Adhihetty and Jeevan Nallainayagam.

U of A team Stephanie Wanke and TJ Adhihetty broke to quarterfinals.
TJ was ranked as the ninth-place speaker, and Stephanie placed tenth.
Diefenbaker Cup, University of Saskatchewan (Jan. 16-18)The hybrid team of Alex Easton and Erin Weir (U of C) won the tournament.
Alex was also a Public Speech finalist.
World Universities Debating Championships, Singapore (Dec. 27 – Jan. 3)
Sharon Ohayon was recognized as the Third-Place Public Speaker in the world.
U of A adjudicator Paige Smith was selected for panels in the quarterfinals and ESL final, while Barrie Tanner judged the Grand Final itself.
Shumiatcher Cup, University of Regina (Nov. 21-23)
The team of Clarissa Pearce and Greg Fingas broke to finals and placed second.
James Crossman and Julia Lisztwan made it to semi-finals.
James and Clarissa tied for fourth-place speaker, Chris Jones placed third, and Julia was both the Top Speaker and Top Novice.
Fall Open, University of Calgary (Oct. 17-19)
In an all-Alberta final, Julia Lisztwan and Alim Merali won the tournament, and the team of Mat Johnson and Peter Buijs placed second.
Sharon Ohayon tied for third place as an individual speaker, and Chris Jones was the highest-scoring novice debater.
Greg Fingas, Michael Janz, Sharon Ohayon and James Knull broke to the Public Speech final, with James taking second place.
2002-2003 SEASON
CUSID Nationals, Dalhousie University (Mar. 14-16)
Helen McGraw and Rahool Agarwal broke to quarters and placed 5th overall.
John Robinson Cup, University of Manitoba (Feb. 28 – Mar. 2)
Helen McGraw and Kyle Kawanami broke to finals and placed 2nd.

The teams of Kyle Kawanami / Arthur Tse and Chris Samuel / Roman Kotovych broke to finals.
Arthur Tse was the Top Speaker in the final round.
Breaking to semifinals were Helen McGraw / James Crossman and the tournament’s Top Novice Team, Donal Finegan / Garrett Finegan.
Donal Finegan was the Top Novice Speaker of the tournament.
Chris Samuel placed first in Public Speech, while Ajit Singh and Helen McGraw were also finalists.
Fall Open, University of Calgary (Oct. 25-27)
Talib Rajwani and Alim Merali broke to finals and placed 2nd.
Chris Bolivar and Mike Reid broke to semis and placed 4th.
Breaking to quarterfinals were Arthur Tse / Paul Myroon and Alex Easton / Partner.
Mike Reid was the Top Novice Speaker.
Alex Easton won Public Speech, while Chris Samuel and Kyle Kawanami were also finalists.

The team of Ajit Singh and Sharon Ohayon placed 5th overall in this Worlds Preparatory tournament.
Ajit placed fourth in overall speaks, and Sharon placed fourth in public speech.
Shumiatcher Cup, University of Regina (Oct. 4-6)
Helen McGraw and Mat Johnson broke to finals and placed 2nd.
Rahool Agarwal and Chris Bolivar broke to semis and placed 3rd.
Theresa Litorco and Nathan Pullan were the Top Novice Team.
Theresa Litorco also placed as the Top Novice Speaker of the tournament.
